‘Unlocking The Warehouse’ – Community Shares available in central Birmingham warehouse

Birmingham Friends of the Earth are seeking investors to transform their former Victorian warehouse into a super energy-efficient and accessible community building. The Warehouse (54-57 Allison Street, Birmingham, B5 5TH), is a community environment centre in the heart of the city and has been home to Birmingham Friends of the Earth for 40 years and has also provided meeting rooms, office space and trading premises for a range of social enterprises, charities and campaign groups. They are looking to raise investment capital to refurbish the building, which will lead to an increase in the financial, social and environmental value of that space. Financially, there will be more space to let that is of a higher quality. Environmentally, they will be looking to exceed the legal requirements (Building Regulations Part L) for conserving energy in the building by installing more insulation and more efficient glazing. Socially, the building will be more accessible to wheelchair users and people with limited mobility and offer more community meeting facilities. The work will also allow Friends of the Earth to reduce their administration costs and focus more on meeting their social goals and develop new educational and campaigning projects. More information on the shares and how to be involved can be found here.
