Wireless electric vehicle charging for commercial users – Funding Opportunity

UK businesses can apply for innovation grants to design, develop and deploy wireless electric vehicle charging infrastructure for commercial users.

The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £20 million across a two-phase competition. This is for innovation projects to develop technology and business cases for wireless charging for electric vehicles (EVs) for commercial users such as taxis, service vehicles and delivery fleets.

This funding is split into two phases:

  1. Phase One is feasibility studies.
  2. Phase Two is demonstrators.

Only successful feasibility studies projects can apply for the later demonstrators phase. This competition is to secure funding for phase one projects only. There will be a separate application process for phase two funding, which is expected to start in February 2019 and end by 3 April 2019. It will only be open to successful applicants from phase one.

Projects must be collaborative and business-led. We expect to see collaborators from across relevant sectors, including: vehicle manufacturers, hardware manufacturers, service providers, local authorities and other infrastructure providers.

The deadline for applications for phase one of this project is 29 August 2018.
