Birmingham City Council: Sustainable Tourism Hub

Lead Organisation

Sustainability West Midlands

Project Manager: Anna Bright (Chief Executive)

Overview

SWM were commissioned by Birmingham City Council to produce an online Sustainable Tourism Hub to be hosted on the ‘Visit Birmingham’ website. The Hub was to hold useful resources to allow any business in the tourism sector to become more sustainable. This includes sectors such as hospitality, visitor attractions, events, museums and gardens.

The Hub is aimed to be accessible and relevant to any businesses, no matter what stage they are at on their journey to sustainability. The Hub has been developed to include short video tutorials on key topics, case studies from local organisations, and information on funding, events and support.

In developing the Hub SWM engaged with 100’s of businesses across the region to gain their perspectives and develop case studies based on their experience. This included many of our own members such as Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Midlands Arts Centre, and Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens.

The Hub was launched at the West Midlands Tourism Forum in March 2023, alongside the Accessible Tourism Hub.
