Mitigating Climate Change: should we pay now or later?

Date of presentation

September 2014

Presenter

Professor Dame Julia King DBE FREng, Vice-Chancellor Aston University, Birmingham Member of the Committee on Climate Change

Purpose of the presentations

SWM Board member, Julia King, presented at the British Science Festival on behalf of the Committee on Climate Change.

The key point of the presentation was setting out how measures to reduce carbon and meet our targets would improve our economic performance not hamper it (see slide 26).

What SWM liked

We liked the clear context for the Climate Change Act, positive progress to date in many areas, especially global transport, and the economic evidence that meeting the UK carbon targets would improve not reduce our economic progress (see slide 26).
