Purpose of presentations

The NHS Carbon Reduction Strategy recognised that procuring in a low carbon way is a major challenge. 60% of the NHS England total carbon footprint is associated with procurement of products and services, with carbon emissions associated with the extraction, processing, assembly, packaging, transport, storage and handling of products and materials that are consumed directly and indirectly by service providers. Reducing these carbon emissions will be a significant challenge.   It will require creative thinking around how to deliver health and social care now and into the future. Substitution, innovation and effective engagement with suppliers will all become significant elements of carbon reduction strategies. This workshop provided delegates with an overview of the information and tools available to help during the procurement process.
