SWM News January 2020 - Two fantastic opportunities to demonstrate your commitment to a sustainable West Midlands

#WM2041

It's a positive start to 2020, as last week the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) launched an ambitious discussion document in relation to their target of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2041. Building on our industrial heritage and new strengths in innovation, #WM2041 highlights the opportunity to create a highly productive, low carbon economy and indeed focuses on what the WMCA and partners need to do to create a more sustainable region, by setting out five underpinning principles:

  1. We will make the journey to 2041 without leaving anyone behind
  2. We will boost our resilience to climate change
  3. Our future will respect our heritage
  4. We will build more places and more connectivity between places
  5. We will save energy and resources without reducing prosperity

SWM has written a summary of the #WM2041 paper and how it fits with our regional Sustainability Roadmap to 2030. The ambition of the paper is to be highly commended and we will be supporting the WMCA and our members across the whole region to ensure that the targets and actions can be achieved. Meanwhile, WMCA is wanting your views on #WM2041 and you can provide these via the WMCA website until 12 March.

SWM Membership Competition 2020

Linking with this, it is timely that we can now announce the launch of 2020's SWM membership competition! This is your chance to win a year's free membership of SWM and gain the multiple benefits that our membership offer can provide to all sectors. There will be one winner from each sector (public, private and third) and the application process is easy peasy. Full details are on our website and the deadline to apply is Friday 28 February.

This is your chance to show that you mean business when it comes to making a strong contribution to the regional Sustainability Roadmap to 2030, so what are you waiting for?
