Royal Air Force Museum

The Royal Air Force Museum is a free National museum dedicated to sharing RAF stories that are relevant to visitor’s lives, and inspiring them to fulfil their own potential.

They have two museums, one in London and one in Cosford in Shropshire. They are currently investing £27m of National Lottery Heritage Fund money into the Cosford site, which will transform the Museum and its impact though a series of phased projects – engaging audiences who may not obviously identify with the RAF story by finding common interests and histories which link them.

They will continue to develop and nurture meaningful partnerships, invest their funding responsibly, and recognise the importance of museums and culture to the economic prosperity and social wellbeing of their communities.

The developing programme considers the sites unique heritage, with plans drawing on investment in learning, wellbeing, the Midlands, and sharing and preserving the extraordinary stories of the RAF, past present and future.

They are also considering how their operations impact on the environment. On their membership with SWM, they say:

“We have started our journey towards the decarbonisation of our two sites and we would like to share our own experience and that of others. We are keen to contribute towards a network of other local and regional companies to build expertise.”
