Low Carbon Innovation

SWM has supported low carbon innovation across all sectors for over a decade.

What is low carbon innovation?

We need to reduce carbon emissions to slow the pace of climate change. Innovative products and services are part of the solutions and provide opportunities for research, business diversification, and collaboration across sectors.

How can SWM help?

We’ve been working with cross-sector organisations to support low carbon innovation for many years. Here are some of the ways that we can help:

We run the long-established Innovative Net Zero Working Group (IZCWG) which brings together 100’s of organisations across sectors to spark collaboration and accelerate clean growth. The Group supports key high-growth clusters in the WM Growth Plan — including smart energy systems, sustainable mobility, housing manufacture, and wider clean tech — while also promoting decarbonisation and circular economy solutions across all industries. We provide biweekly updates summarising the latest funding, events, resources, and policy news. We also run quarterly meetings to share best practice, inspire new partnerships, and catalyse cross-sector innovation.

We support challenge-led innovation, bringing together organisations that have a challenge, with those that can provide the solution. We run workshops and encourage collaboration to catalyse the development of products and services, and develop long-term relationship.

We bring together innovators and investors giving innovators the chance to pitch for investment, and investors the chance to better understand the market opportunities and policy support for these innovations, and ultimately invest. This includes areas such as energy, circular economy and nature.
