Fircroft College of Adult Education are the only residential adult further education college in the Midlands, funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority
Fircroft College of Adult Education are based in George Cadbury Jnr’s old family home, bequeathed to the college by him as its founder, in the 20th century. They are also a charity, welcoming people from the West Midlands community to develop and learn new skills and progress through residential education. Fircroft courses are usually 3 days and 2 nights each week and include personal and social development; courses for work; digital, maths and English functional skills; sustainability and green skills courses and Access to Higher Education Diplomas.
Fircroft College of Adult Education have big ambitions in their commitment to social and climate/ environmental justice which they see as fundamentally interlinked and inter-related. They were the first college in England to declare a climate emergency and their ambitions are manifested in their college-wide Green Pledge, launched in the summer of 2023, which is a culmination of many years’ commitment to social and climate/environmental justice which is now explicit in their mission statement and strategy.

“We have a number of strategic priorities at the college and our main one is sustainability. All the roadmap areas apply to us in some way as we work hard to become more sustainable, bringing our students along with us as we deliver more and more education that includes green skills and sustainability topics as we aim for carbon net zero in 2030.
We feel that becoming a member of Sustainability West Midlands will help us in a number of ways including helping us to promote what we are doing; find like-minded organisations to work with and learn from and to attend events/conferences where we can find out the latest and local environmental-related updates”
