Midlands Arts Centre (MAC) recognises the crucial role of arts organisations in encouraging a collective cultural response to the climate crisis, proactively working towards a more sustainable creative sector at both a regional and national level.

Rooted in Birmingham’s local economy and communities, MAC is committed to ensuring their work has a minimal impact on the environment and actively promotes sustainable ways of working. They have an engaged Green Champions group with representatives from across the organisation, who meet regularly to make direct contributions to MAC’s dynamic Environmental Action Plan.
MAC recognises that a successful environmental strategy involves networking with other organisations in order to share challenges, learn from others’ experiences and implement best practice.

Working with Sustainability West Midlands allows the arts centre to further their environmental goals through active collaboration with others. They welcome the advice and support that SWM bring, as well as the higher profile that is given to MAC’s activities through their membership.
About their SWM membership, MAC say:
“As a cultural hub for Birmingham and the West Midlands, the climate emergency is a key priority for MAC when it comes to artistic ideas. We aim to champion those within our creative industries – from artists to theatre makers – who are interested in finding solutions to the current crisis, addressing climate justice and telling stories about the environment through art. By being part of Sustainability West Midlands, MAC is better able to create dialogue within our local communities about our environmental work, as well as join forces with likeminded organisations within the region’s ecology.”
