With this vision at he heart of everything they do, Groundwork West Midlands are proud to introduce Unity Brew, a new community cafe in the heart of Tipton that brings people, opportunity and environmental action together in one welcome space.
Unity Brew offers a relaxed, friendly environment where visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee, join a workshop, or simply connect with neighbours. The cafe also features a free community bookshelf to encourage reading and conversations across generations. Building on the successful Cook Together Eat Together programme, Unity Brew will provide healthy, affordable meals while fostering social interaction. With a Pay It Forward scheme allowing customers to pre-purchase meals for those in need, ensuring access to nutritious food for everyone.
Sustainability at Its Core
True to Groundwork’s green values, sustainability is built into every aspect of Unity Brew. The cafe makes conscious choices everyday:
- Recycling used coffee grounds across Groundwork projects such as The People’s Patch and community planting schemes.
- Transforming used tins and egg cartons into bug hotels, encouraging biodiversity and helping nature thrive.
- Using biodegradable bags for takeout food and bamboo cutlery to reduce plastic waste.
- Maintaining minimal food waste through careful planning and low-waste practices.
Creating Skills & Opportunities
Unity Brew is also a place where people can learn and grow, providing new opportunities for skills and confidence:
- Volunteering roles
- Customer service and hospitality experience
- Food preparation skills
- Supported placements for Restart clients
Each opportunity helps build confidence, develop employability skills and support residents on their journey into sustainable employment.
A Social Enterprise with Heart
Run as a social enterprise, every purchase at Unity Brew helps fund local community projects and environmental initiatives. The space will also host workshops, exhibitions, and events focused on sustainability and social justice.
