Younity Powering Communities Fund Helps Community Energy Groups Thrive

Younity’s Powering Communities Fund is back for 2026. This year, community energy groups can apply for up to £5,000 to help bring their social impact projects to life.

Community energy groups across the UK can now apply for grant funding through Younity’s Powering Communities Fund, with applications for 2026 officially open. In an exciting update, the maximum grant per application has increased to £5,000, giving groups even more support to develop and deliver their social impact projects.

Since launching, the fund has completed six rounds of grants, distributing £80,000 across 24 different projects. Funding has gone towards equipment purchases, local events, workshops, volunteer training, conference attendance, and project expansion.

Who can apply?

Eligibility is straightforward. You simply need to be a community energy group or organisation that holds a current or upcoming Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Younity, has a site on the Community Smart Export Guarantee, or has previously used the Kickstart Loan facility.

What kind of projects are being funded?

This year, judges are looking for projects that deliver impact in one or more of the following areas: community engagement and outreach, environmental impact, educational and awareness-raising initiatives, collaboration and partnerships, and innovation and creativity.

How does the fund work?

The Powering Communities Fund is made possible through Younity’s partnership with Your Co-op Energy. For every new customer that switches to their Community Power Tariff, £10 is added to the fund pot, which is then distributed to community groups each year.
