SWM Environmental Impact Report 2023/24 and 2024/25

An internal report measuring Sustainability West Midlands carbon footprint and progress on emissions reduction.
Date of the report:

July 2025

Author of the report:

Sustainability West Midlands

Purpose of the report:

Sustainability West Midlands (SWM) has produced this Environmental Impact Report to understand and reduce our carbon emissions across the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25.

Whilst we are not legally required to produce an Environmental Impact Report, we have chosen to do so to demonstrate leadership and set an example of best practice. Measuring or estimating our emission streams gives us a greater understanding of our environmental impact and allows us to make informed decisions on
how to reduce this. The report focuses on measuring key emission sources that we are responsible for, including business travel, office operations, and website emissions.

This report highlights that business travel remains the largest source of emissions but has seen a decrease, attributed to an increase in sustainable transport methods such as trains and cycling. Overall emissions fell by 7.92% between the two years studied. It also identifies areas for further improvement, including reducing website emissions and refining data accuracy.

We hope that this report serves as a practical baseline for SWM’s ongoing environmental management and offers insights and inspiration for other small and medium-sized organisations seeking to measure and reduce their environmental impacts.
