Sustainability West Midlands March Newsletter

We're feeling very positive at SWM as the clocks change and the evenings are brighter, and as the country starts to slowly reopen after a long and challenging lockdown. The level of activity on net zero is huge and we're hopeful that COP26 will drive further ambition and provide opportunities for us and our stakeholders.

The WMCA board has recently approved the first of several Five Year Plans to meet their 2041 net zero ambitions including over £5m of investment to cut emissions by retrofitting homes, expanding greenspace and creating green jobs.

As part of this plan, SWM will administer the Net Zero Business Pledge, open to any organisation in the region. SWM have been working with the WMCA to develop the pledge over the last six months, working collaboratively with SWM members including Severn Trent, Wylde Connections, Coventry Council, Solihull Council and the University of Birmingham.

The pledge encourages organisations to commit to reducing carbon emissions, whilst receiving practical support and guidance on how to achieve their targets.
Commitment to the pledge will help you:
  • Reduce your environmental impact and save costs
  • Position your business as a leader in the net zero carbon economy
  • Prepare your business for climate change impacts
Make your Pledge
