Maximising Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) Hub

The Event
SWM is a partner in the three-year Defra and UKRI funded MACC Hub project.
As climate risks intensify, adaptation at scale will require both strong public policy and significant private investment. But how can the public and private sectors work together to deliver adaptation that is truly transformative, inclusive and durable?
This webinar explores how policy frameworks and private capital can align to support long-term adaptation outcomes; and where the tensions, trade-offs and risks lie. We will examine the enabling conditions needed to mobilise private finance in ways that strengthen, rather than undermine, systemic adaptation efforts, and the role of policy in guiding and governing this process.
Discussion
Key questions include:
- What role should policy play in shaping private sector engagement in adaptation?
- Can private capital support long-term, systemic adaptation, or is it inherently short-term and risk-averse?
- How can private finance complement public responsibility for adaptation?
- What are the risks of increased reliance on private finance for adaptation?
- What does meaningful alignment between policy and private capital look like in practice, and what examples can we learn from?
This event is the second in our finance webinar series. You can watch the first webinar here.
