Are Green Jobs for Everyone?

Our members, BizEd Projects CIC and Sarah Stone Consulting, collaborate on a new book focusing on green jobs and skills

SWM members Vicki Ayton, from BizEd Projects CIC, and Sarah Stone have released a major new report with the Green Jobs Foundation asking: Are Green Jobs for Everyone?

The report explores who’s being left behind in the UK’s green transition and why. Drawing on interviews, case studies and sector analysis, it highlights gaps in access, the hidden green workforce, and the role of charities and FE colleges in building inclusive pathways. It calls for urgent investment in community-led training, better employer-college collaboration, and a broader definition of what a green job really is.

The report also “provides insight from across the ecosystem of organisations that need to come together to make green jobs a success story for UK plc. We look at the big picture around green jobs language, how it’s evolved, how it’s helpful (how it’s not) and how it can be more relevant to the current workforce transformation we’re witnessing.”

The report is timely given the recent refreshed study into the Low Carbon Environmental Goods and Services in the Midlands, commissioned by Midlands Net Zero Hub and supported by SWM.
