Overview
This project has been commissioned by the Midlands Net Zero Hub to provide an evidence-based study to understand:
- The current state of the Low Carbon Environmental Goods & Services (LCEGS) Sector in the Midlands.
- Where support is needed to help grow this sector.
- How the sector has grown since 2021, and how it has recovered following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 2025 edition will act as a “refresh” to the initial project, delivered in 2021. This will allow for examination of trends the sector has seen since then, and which sub-sectors have experienced the most significant growth. Comparisons can also be made between projections made in 2021 and recent trends to allow for more accurate projections in future.
The LCEGS sector experienced a significant contraction due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and this refresh will give an understanding for how successfully the sector has rebounded following the end of the pandemic.
Outputs
Quantitative data collection and analysis of the sector was undertaken by kMatrix, combined with literature review, stakeholder engagement and policy recommendations led by SWM.
The study includes 65 short Local Authority reports, 8 reports covering strategic sub-regions and a Midlands-wide level report. These are intended as short reports of key findings, with companion datasets for further detail. Each local authority has been sent their reports directly, as well as slide decks featuring graphical representations of the data.
Download links for the full list of Local Authority, Sub-Regional and the Midlands-Wide Regional summary reports are available below, whilst the companion datasets and a detailed methodology can be found on the kMatrix website.
