Herefordshire Business Climate Adaptation Programme

Herefordshire Council are offering five free climate resilience audits to help local businesses prepare for the future.

Herefordshire Council, supported by Sustainability West Midlands, is inviting five independent, non-agricultural businesses with up to 50 employees to take part in a new business climate adaptation programme.

The programme will help participating businesses understand how climate change could affect their organisation and identify practical steps they can take to become more resilient. Each participating business will receive a climate change adaptation audit and a personalised adaptation action plan, produced by SWM.

The action plan will identify the key actions your business should consider to prepare for risks such as flooding, extreme heat, storms and water scarcity.

What your business could gain

Preparing for the impacts of climate change can help businesses:

• Reduce disruption caused by extreme weather
• Protect opening hours and income
• Improve the resilience of buildings, land and business operations
• Prepare for changing conditions and volatile markets
• Support staff wellbeing and productivity
• Identify practical actions that can be taken over time.

The action plan will be tailored to your business and will include:

• The top five adaptation actions your organisation should consider
• A wider list of potential actions, including priorities, resource requirements and timescales
• Identification of organisations and partners that could help you deliver the recommended actions
• Information and mapping relating to flood risk where relevant.
• You do not need to have already taken action on climate change adaptation to apply.

If your business has already experienced flooding, extreme heat, storms or other weather-related impacts, or has already taken steps to improve its resilience, this information can be included in your application.

Applications

This programme is aimed at independent, non-agricultural businesses based in Herefordshire, with up to 50 employees. Five businesses will be selected to take part in the programme.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, complete the expression of interest form by 5pm on Thursday 24 September 2026.

Herefordshire Council will contact applicants with further information during the week beginning 28 September 2026.
