Purpose of the report
This report highlights how public spaces are often neglected and unkempt-a fact that contributes to a widespread dissatisfaction with urban life. The document details the many ways in which public spaces enrich our lives and draws on the most reliable sources of information from the UK and around the world to present persuasive evidence of the huge benefits of investing in our public spaces.
Relevance to the region
The higher the density of housing, the greater the need for well-designed, well-managed public spaces to aid ‘liveability’ in the community and this is particularly relevant to some parts of the West Midlands, with our dense urban areas.
What SWM liked
The report gives politicians, local authorities, businesses, and communities the information they need to make the case for better quality civic spaces. It also highlights the economic benefits associated with the increase in property and land values surrounding good quality parks and the social benefits of responsible public space management. Promoting these benefits makes a positive step towards improving livelihoods and securing a more sustainable future.
