Mark is an SWM Associate and has always had a strong interest in the natural environment and how work and problem solving can utilise natural solutions to achieve results. He has time to offer his services to SWM, feeling that his background and experience can be useful in helping companies and people to navigate the path toward more efficient, sustainable operations.
Profile
I have always had a strong interest in the natural environment and how work and problem solving can utilise natural solutions to achieve results. With a strong practical, technical and engineering background I am comfortable identifying the normal mainstream solution but I always prefer to challenge that, to see if there is a more natural way to create sustainable outcomes with the least environmental impact. I love helping companies and people to improve processes, do the right thing and sustain themselves.
I graduated as an Electrical engineer and the first part of my career was a service engineer installing and commissioning welding robot systems all over the world, mainly in the field of heavy industry. The latter part of my working life was within Japanese manufacturing plants in automotive and office equipment fields. I led large departments in both production and engineering disciplines which allowed me great experience in all aspects of leadership. I also spent over 20 years as a governor / chair of governors in secondary schools in my local area. I hold qualifications in Leadership and Management, Quality management, Health & Safety and many specialised technical / automation disciplines, as well as various subjects related to my governor’s role. During the latter part of my career I sat on various business and environment committees and I also led the company in gaining the RoSPA International Sword and Globe of honour award, for our integrated Health Safety and Environment approaches.
