The Event
Join this event to celebrate Birmingham’s journey towards its recent award as a Nature City and work together to envisage a future climate resilient urban forest for Birmingham.
It will be an interactive and forward-looking workshop where attendees will explore Birmingham’s journey toward becoming a climate resilient city. After hearing from our morning speakers, attendees will then recap the risks, drivers, barriers and solutions to preparing for the future climate hazards of surface water flooding and extreme heat which were identified in the first CARMINE Living Lab workshop held in 2024.
Next, using a Systems Innovation Approach, attendees will dive into the Birmingham Urban Forest Master Plan, now five years into its implementation. There will be a reflectiob on progress so far and envision how different sectors of Birmingham — nature, communities, business and finance, energy, and health — can support a thriving, diverse and equitable urban forest. This is a chance to shape the future of the city through collaboration, creativity, and shared vision and will feed into the third CARMINE Living Lab workshop planned for early 2026 looking at climate adaptation and mitigation pathways and research and innovation roadmaps.
