The 2.6 Challenge

The Community Heartbeat Trust, a community partner of SWM member Midcounties Coop, like so many charities across the UK, has been impacted by the shutdown and cancellation of thousands of fundraising events due to Covid-19. In response, the organisers of the biggest mass participation sports events across the country have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help our fundraising and save the UK’s charities. These charities need our support now more than ever. From those supporting children to the elderly, as well as those providing vital palliative care, mental health support, housing, food supplies and more. It’s never been more important to come together and show how much they care. This initiative is not just to support Community Heartbeat Trust, any funds raised by supporting us will be distributed across the whole UK, but by showing your support we will also benefit from any proceeds raised as a whole by all participants and fundraisers on the 26th of April.

How To Get Involved!

From Sunday 26 April, we’re asking you to dream up an activity based around the numbers 2.6 or 26 and fundraise by creating a 2.6 Challenge fundraising page or donate to Community Heartbeat Trust on Virgin Money Giving or Just Giving. No need to be a marathon runner to take part – this is a challenge for all ages and abilities. Just get thinking of an activity based around the numbers 26 or 2.6 and complete it on or from Sunday April 26. It could be something as simple as running 2.6 miles, 26 minutes of yoga, or juggling for 26 minutes – or on second thoughts, maybe just 2.6 minutes! Check out below for more ideas and inspiration. And don’t worry if you’re not able to get out your house or flat for now. We’re not looking for superheroes or – we’re looking for Home Heroes and HeartbeatHeroes. There are no rules (apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time). Whatever you can do, you can be part of it – the main thing is getting active, having fun and donating whatever you can to help save the UK’s charities.
