Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens are celebrating receiving a prestigious Green Flag Award for the Parkland.
Castle Bromwich Historic Parkland has officially been recognised as one of the country’s best parks, achieving the internationally respected Green Flag Award – the benchmark for well-managed parks and green spaces.
The news that Lady Brads – as the 30-acre site is fondly known locally, has achieved accreditation reflects the hard work and dedication of the team who maintain this valued green space for both residents and visitors.
Part of a wider historic and natural Conservation Area in East Birmingham, the parkland dates back over 400 years and remains an important space for both heritage and nature in an urban setting.
Oliver Pickering, the Trust’s Parkland Manager, said:
”Over a period of just four years we’ve been able to stop the rapid decline and loss of some valuable habitats, restored wetlands and opened up pathways, making it good for wildlife and a much safer place for locals to spend time”.
The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for green space management in the UK and around the world.
Castle Bromwich Hall and Gardens Trust is proud to have achieved this mark of excellence and will continue working to ensure the Parkland remains a thriving, inclusive green space for all.
