Staffordshire County Council is currently recruiting for two exciting roles within their highly respected Flood Risk Management Team, supporting both Staffordshire and the Black Country.
Flood Planning and Projects Officer
This role offers the opportunity to work across key areas such as highways, planning, emergency response, and environmental disciplines – while leading on either planning consultations or flood alleviation projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to planning applications with expert flood risk advice
- Investigating flood incidents and delivering flood alleviation schemes
- Working with internal and external partners on key projects
- Shaping future developments to reduce flood risk
Ideal candidate:
- Degree or equivalent experience in flood risk, drainage, or planning
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and drainage systems
- Confident with GIS and flood mapping tools
- Able to travel within Staffordshire and the Black Country
Land Drainage Engineer
Join the team delivering vital flood risk services to local communities. This hands-on role focuses on investigating drainage issues, advising landowners, and supporting flood emergency response.
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating flooding and land drainage enquiries
- Supporting with GIS maps, asset planning, and solutions design
- Advising the public on watercourse and land ownership responsibilities
- Taking enforcement action when necessary under drainage legislation
Ideal candidate:
- Experience in flood risk or drainage
- Familiarity with planning, land drainage, and watercourse regulation
- GIS and mapping skills
- Strong public communication and engagement abilities
