Herefordshire Council is recruiting two new roles

The SWM member is looking for a Senior Landscape Officer and a Principal Ecologist.
Senior Landscape Officer

This role will include carrying out site visits to assess the impact of new development on the landscape character and visual amenity of the area, together with an assessment of any mitigation required, linked with biodiversity net gain and green blue infrastructure. This is then followed up by providing clear and concise reports and recommendations in line with national guidance, planning policy and legislation. You will also provide landscape advice on strategic planning policy, land allocations, neighbourhood plans and support the enforcement team in relation to their investigations on landscape matters.

You will work with other teams across the council to help implement the recently produced Green Blue Infrastructure Strategy, Herefordshire Tree, Hedgerow and Woodland Strategy and the developing Local Nature Recovery Strategy. You will be part of the Natural Environment team comprising; Ecology, Landscape, Trees and Public Open Space and will work closely with colleagues in the Built and Historic Environment team.

Principal Ecologist

In this role, you would act as a principal advisor primarily in relation to Ecology and Biodiversity Net Gain matters and your main duties would include:

  • Leading team of technical officers to promote ecological conservation, enhancement and proper management of the wider natural environment, across both council owned estates and the county as a whole. 
  • To act as a principal adviser in relation to Ecology and Biodiversity Net Gain, providing technical advice both internally and externally.
  • Provision of technical advice to both Planning and the Nutrient Mitigation lead on Ecological matters.
  • Providing conservation advice and the development of best practice in relation to these matters.
  • Working collaboratively with other teams across the council to address the council’s recently declared Climate and Ecological Emergency.
  • Deputising for the Natural Environmental Team Leader in respect of natural environment matters as and when required.
