Purpose of the report

This forms part of the wider SWM sustainability support programme for the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) which includes using the SWM Board as an independent cross-sector advisory body for the WMCA. The purpose of this report is to provide an update on SWM progress on integrating sustainability within the WMCA to the WMCA programme board of 40 senior officer representatives. This sets out an update on who SWM is, the progress the WMCA has made to date on integrating sustainability within its direction, content and delivery, and the future support needs. As a result of this report and the discussion by the WMCA programme board it was agreed in principle:

  • SWM to become a delivery partner around the areas suggested of leadership and delivery support
  • To continue to provide the independent critical friend role – especially on how to integrated the sustainability agenda within the WMCA operations and across the leadership structures, rather than a ‘stand alone’ agenda
  • Use our networks to help build on the WMCA outreach and communications programme
  • For SWM to work with the WMCA to develop a longer-term support programme with officers for final approval
