Using open-access climate risk tools to inform place-based adaptation planning

SWM is involved in the MACC Hub as an engagement partner covering the whole of England, and to support the development of non-academic outputs.Through the MACC, we are giving our stakeholders the opportunity to attend one of two Climate Risk Workshops. These workshops are part of a UK-wide series designed to support local and regional stakeholders in using open-access climate risk tools to inform place-based adaptation planning.

Workshop focus

• Showcase tools including OpenCLIM, the Met Office’s Local Authority Climate Service (LACS), and the UK Climate Projections User Interface.
• Explore real-world case studies and user journeys. The online workshop will focus on a rural example based in Somerset, and the in-person workshop will focus on an urban example based in London.
• Support strategic planning with accessible climate data.

This workshop will focus on applying climate data to a largely urban area, with a case study focusing on London. If you’re more interested in applying climate data to an rural setting, please attend the sister workshop taking place online on 14 October. You do not need to attend both, as the content covered will otherwise be quite similar.

Audience

Priority will be given to organisations and individuals who may benefit from using and understand climate data to inform policy and practice, especially in the health and local planning sectors. Private climate consultancies are not permitted to attend.

This workshop is limited to 30 spaces. Book early to avoid disappointment!

• 09:00 – 10:00 | Session 1: Introduction
  Welcome, context setting, and an overview of the workshop objectives and tools.
• 10:00 – 11:00 | Session 2: Climate Hazards
  This session will explore the Local Authority Climate Service (LACS) and how it supports understanding of localised climate hazards.
• 11:00 – 12:30 | Session 3: Climate Impacts and Vulnerability
  An interactive session examining how climate hazards translate into impacts across sectors, with a focus on vulnerability and interdependencies.
• 12:30 – 13:00 | Session 4: Wrap-Up
  Reflections, next steps, and opportunities for continued engagement and feedback.
