The Clean Tech Business Group: Shropshire Net Zero Leaders Programme
Shropshire Net Zero Leaders is a fully funded support initiative for businesses in the area who wish to measure and manage their carbon impacts, with a particular focus on cutting emissions along the supply chain. The programme is delivered by The Clean Tech Business Group on behalf of Shropshire Council. SWM were commissioned by The Clean Tech Business Group to provide support including stakeholder engagement and contribution of technical expertise.

International Synergies Ltd (ISL): West Midlands Resource Reuse Network
The West Midlands Resource Reuse Network (WMRRN) aims to deliver cost and carbon savings for companies managing wastewater, sand and sludge waste streams by identifying reuse opportunities that divert the waste stream from disposal. The network is delivered on behalf of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). SWM were commissioned by ISL to support delivery of the network and provide stakeholder engagement and technical expertise.

A benchmark of local and combined authorities in the East and West Midlands on their progress with taking climate action, in order to provide advice, support and recommendations to help them improve and celebrate success

Midlands Net Zero Hub: Low Carbon Environmental Goods and Services Sector Refresh 2025
SWM and kMatrix were commissioned by the Midlands Net Zero Hub to conduct a refresh to the original Low Carbon Environmental Goods & Services (LCEGS) Sector study, giving an understanding of the current state of the sector in the Midlands, where support is needed to grow the sector, and how the sector has recovered following the Covid-19 pandemic.

West Midlands Combined Authority: West Midlands Net Zero Business Pledge
The West Midlands Net Zero Business Pledge was launched by Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, in March 2021 and now has over 100 pledged organisations including many SWM members such as National Express West Midlands and Mott MacDonald.

Aston University: Sustainability Review
SWM were commissioned to undertake a review of the university’s approach to environmental management and sustainability to ensure that recruitment of their new Sustainability Manager resulted in the appointment of the best candidate for the role, taking account of the future needs of the university.

SWM were commissioned by the LGA’s Economic Growth Advisers Programme to assist Telford & Wrekin Council with their green and sustainable growth model for the manufacturing sector.

Coventry College: Professional Certification: Sustainable Management
Birmingham Enterprise Community (BEC) delivered an 8 week online course on on behalf of Coventry College, assisted by a number of external partners, including SWM. The course was aimed at anyone wanting to become a sustainability practitioner, or current sustainability managers looking to advance their knowledge.

Innovate UK: CleanTech Investor Showcase Events
Carbon Limiting Technologies Ltd (CLT) are running a series of events on behalf of Innovate UK over the next two years, supported by SWM. These events will bring clean tech innovators together with investors; giving innovators the chance to pitch for investment, and giving investors the chance to better understand the market opportunities and policy support for these innovations, and ultimately invest. These events are taking place around the UK, and will each focus on a different clean tech theme.

East of England Local Government Association: East of England Regional Climate Change Forum: Baseline Analysis
The East of England Regional Climate Change Forum (RCCF) brings together representatives from 8 climate change partnerships across the region, together representing over 50 local authorities. The Forum is run by the East of England Local Government Association (EELGA), who support it to achieve climate action targets. For this project, EELGA asked SWM for an analysis of each partnership’s climate change progress, and an explanation of the barriers to delivery of climate change action across the region.

SWM members University College Birmingham (UCB) commissioned SWM to review their current position with regard to sustainability across the university, and to set out a way forward to becoming more sustainable.

National Lottery Heritage Fund: Embedding sustainability principles into the heritage sector
This project concluded nearly four years of support to the Heritage Fund, the overarching outcome being the full embedment of sustainability across the organisation, both through staff training and the development of a framework to allow staff to assess applications for their sustainability credentials in a consistent way in future.

Midlands Net Zero Hub: Midlands Low Carbon Sector Study 2021
SWM and kMatrix were commissioned by the Midlands Energy Hub to provide an evidence-based study to understand the current state of the Low Carbon Environmental Goods & Services (LCEGS) Sector in the Midlands, where support is needed to help grow this sector, and the role the sector can play in driving a low-carbon recovery from Covid-19.

City of Wolverhampton Council commissioned SWM to provide an independent review of their draft sustainability strategy and action plan, the methodology for calculating their carbon footprint, and input to their citizens assembly.

Midlands Net Zero Hub: Midlands Energy Hub Board
SWM have been on the board of the Midlands Energy Hub since it's establishment in 2018. Working in partnership with the UK Government through BEIS, the Midlands Energy Hub is supporting the delivery of a carbon neutral Britain at a local and regional level.
